We setup the bin that came with the kit along with the regular float and planted Romaine and some buttercrunch lettuce on March 20th. I started the plants in a small tray indoors under our grow lights with water/nutrients in the bottom. They sprouted in 3 days. I hardened them off and moved it outside the 29th.
We constructed a store bought bin with 4 holes and using the 3D printed float, and I planted dwarf kale in the four 4" net pots for that system. (Also started those indoors on the 26th, sprouted a few days later, and moved outside on the 29th as well.)
The bucket was rigged with a T connector to service both bins, and I also installed shut off valves (used for irrigation systems) on each of the lines to make it easy to modify/adjust things.
Looking forward to how things progress. I am going to try to keep up with a photo record.
Thanks for all the info, and for introducing us to this neat growing system. I am an experienced gardener (I have 14 raised beds, Earth Boxes as well as a large area garden we grow lots of stuff in every year), but I am excited to work with hydroponics."
